La pacho comes from the Amazon. This name applies to both the tree and its internal bark, which has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. La pacho has many local names, and while in South America we will hear mostly about ipe-roxo or taheboo. Indigenous Indians inhabiting the Amazon jungle called Pau d'Arco a divine tree and gave them great respect because its internal bark was one of the most important medical supplies for them. They used it in the case of a huge number of ailments, such as fever, malaria, cold and cough, anemia, bacterial and viral infections, and fungal infections. The bark preparations also suppressed any pains and applied to wounds after the bites of poisonous snakes.
Over the years Pau d'Arco has become popular in natural medicine throughout South and Central America, and today it is interested in many researchers in modern medicine. In the PubMedu database alone, about 200 experiments are recorded, in which the activity of La Pacho and active substances isolated on it for tumors, bacteria, viruses and fungi, immune cells and other blood elements, internal organs, enzymes and physiological reactions were tested.
